I am back in the UK now. Descriptions and photos of Costa Rica will be posted sometime soon.

Anyone fancy seeing Douglas Coupland in London on October 9th?

Welcome back - I hope the trip was fabulous, as I'm sure it was...

Thanks! The trip was great, although the journey back not so great. Look out for a postcard from me in a few weeks. :)

Heyhey, looking forward to catching up with you soon :)

What does Douglas Coupland... do... at one of these... things? Rock stars go to gigs to sing, maybe he's going to be writing at this gig? Or is he a comedian as well and I'm being silly? :)

I missed my flights, due to a mechanical failure, and thought I might have to stay in Costa Rica forever, but no, here I am, back in Kent now!

Douglas Coupland tends to read from his books, tell a few anecdotes (probably some will be amusing at least), that kind of thing.

His books are a bit of a mixed bag but I hear that he's an entertaining speaker.

Hmmmm... The 9th is a Tuesday: I can do Tuesdays.

Thanks to your profile, I just spent an hour generating my geek code :P

Your dedication is an example to us all.

This is probably the wrong time to tell you that I found an automated geek code generator that used a questionnaire.

I'm sure a questionnaire takes just as long as reading through each category and sticking the answer into Vim :)

Pity it didn't give you didn't get b-- for book reading though :P

b--
I did not actually READ the geek code, I just had someone tell me.

Want me to get you a ticket?

From: [identity profile] squirmelia.livejournal.com
Tickets have been booked - we have to pick them up on the door on the day from 6.30pm.

Yay!

I work about 15-20 minutes walk away from Blackwells (shame it isn't in Watersones on the Strand, it's just round the corner). I would imagine you're either spending the day in London or coming in via Charing Cross Station.

Thanks.

I think I have lectures until 4pm that day, so not sure where I'll be after that.

Hmm, maybe, the new book sounds interesting from the description. Perhaps I should pick it up when it comes out (early October) and make a decision after reading it, probably a day or two before the event. Or is it likely to be too late for tickets by that point ? I'm trying to remember from the other stuff I've read whether he can really write girls, some of the authors I like can't do that, which is OK so long as they don't try (Greg Egan often doesn't even try to write humans).

after some thought

Ah, Susan Colgate (Miss Wyoming) is a pretty decent character. That works. OK, so I think I will buy this book, and decide whether to go based on that unless you think tickets will sell out first.

Tickets might well sell out.. they have on some previous occasions. He's interesting to listen to, so seeing him doesn't need to be dependent on whether the book is good or not really.

I'll definitely be going if tickets haven't sold out. If they're sold out, I'll go to Cheltenham instead!

It does, it does! On the flight I took from Miami, they were playing Everything's Gone Green, but only in First Class.
