Door

I can hear a door opening somewhere when I take a book from my bookcase.

I remembered Adrian Mitchell's poem about Rice Krispies and decided I wanted to record cereal sounds.

I put the cereal into a paper bowl and poured milk on it, with the sound recorder beneath the bowl, and added a few effects.

We walked on the lake bed as the water was low at Hollingworth Lake, and I recorded sounds of the lake lapping at the shore and picked up a stone.

I painted the stone with conductive paint and hooked it up to the Bare Conductive Touch Board and a speaker, so that when you touch the stone, it plays sounds of the lake.

The theme for the 23rd was abstract vegetation. Instead of drawing abstract vegetation, I decided to get vegetation to make sounds! I found a suitable specimen on a street corner so took it home with me and connected it up to a Bare Conductive Touch Board and to Max, so that when I touched the leaves, it would make sounds.

I painted a balloon with conductive paint and connected it to a Touch Board, so that when I touch it, 99 Luftballons is played. (Using an instrumental version by cherry25565 on Soundcloud: 99 red balloons)

I loaded a photo of the village into Audacity and edited it, with recordings taken in the village added in. It's a rebellion against the picturesque nature of the village, as my teenage self would have wanted.

E.J. Moeran lived next to the baptist chapel and apparently used to sing sea shanties loudly to try to drown out the congregation on a Sunday.

I created a sound walk using the Echoes app.

If you walk close to the baptist chapel, you can hear this track:

When you touch the old jacket, sounds of me putting on other jackets can be heard.

I sewed conductive thread onto the jacket and used a Bare Conductive Touch Board that triggered sounds when the conductive thread was touched.

I used the accelerometer on oscHook, so that when I tip my phone up, different notes are played in Max.

A space invader, cross-stitched with conductive thread. When you touch it, a sound is played.

Experimented with an automaton using silver foil and a Bare Conductive Touch Board, so that it makes a sound when the parts of the automaton touch.

My niblings came to visit, so I set up a touch board with a sound detector. When they clapped or shouted loud enough, the sound of a lion roaring could be heard. They were scared at first and ran away from it when it roared and were convinced the lion was in the shed. They soon befriended it though, named it Oran and made it roar a lot!

A jellyfish, made from fabric, conductive thread and wool, connected to a Touch Board. When you touch it, you can hear sounds of the sea.

A door with a cat door knocker and a piezo, connected to a Touch Board. When you knock on the door, you hear sounds of a cat.

A goat that roars! Painted with conductive paint and connected to a Touch Board and Max. In class, we all followed a graphic score in Max and I used the goat as my instrument.

The musical ballpit lives again! Well, kind of.

The original version was made by [personal profile] deathboy and I for EMFCamp 2016 and was at least double the size and had different sound sets and so on. This rather limited version is in my living room and is using Max for colour detection.

Mirror that tells you that you look nice today.

Touch Board connected to a light dependent resistor, so it plays an MP3 when you get close to the mirror.

In the village where I grew up is a viaduct which is great for shouting into, as you get good echoes. My mum and I still shout into it when we walk under it. She suggested that it should speak back to you when you shout into it, so I've connected up the Bare Conductive Touch Board to a sound detector. When the sound level is high enough, an MP3 will be played. Currently it plays back me saying "echo".

I can't visit the viaduct at the moment, but for now, I am shouting at a picture of the viaduct and it is shouting back.

Lobster

In last night's Sonic Arts lesson, we learnt how to use Max for detecting colour. The recording of me saying "lobster" gets transposed depending on how much red is detected. Lobster, lobster, lobster.

Potato says "hello" when you touch it:

Wink drum

I used FaceOSC and Max, so that when I wink, it plays the sound of a snare drum.
