Yellow paper

4th February was Russell Hoban Day, which is an annual event to celebrate Russell Hoban and his work. It would have been his 90th birthday.

On Russell Hoban Day, fans write quotes on yellow pieces of paper and leave them in public places for people to find.

This year, I used a quote from Angelica's Grotto:

"He tasted, like fruit gums, the intensely red, green, and amber of traffic lights."

I wrote my quote on a sheet of yellow A4 paper, and then looked for somewhere in London to leave it.

It was a cold night, and the moon was bright, and I spent time looking at traffic lights to see if I could blu-tac the quote there, but the streets were busy, so I decided against it.

In the end, I stuck the quote up in a phone box that was missing a door. The phone was in a poor condition with wires hanging out of it. There were cobwebs in the top corner of the phone box and on the outside was a poster advertising a circus.

Phone box

The fourth of February is the birthday of the author, Russell Hoban, and every year, fans leave quotes on A4 pieces of yellow paper in random locations.

I forgot that it was supposed to be A4 yellow paper, so ended up with A5 yellow card, but never mind.

I left a quote from The Trokeville Way in a phonebox in Nottingham:

"It's got mystery, that music, it's got magic - it takes you out of the everyday sameness into a place where anything can happen."

The phonebox is near to places where people go to listen to music, to see bands, and dance.. such as Rock City. After I left the quote, I walked past the Tap 'N' Tumbler pub and it said on it,
"It's only rock 'n roll"
"..But I like it"

I've also been thinking about bridges. So far in February, I think I've crossed at least 8 bridges, but maybe some were brudges (bridges with a grudge).

Today though, I don't think I knowingly crossed any bridges. I did see a Zombee and ate English trifle and royal falooda ice-cream though.

Today is Russell Hoban's 86th birthday.

It was lunchtime, so I headed outside and my blue/black/purple skirt danced along with my hair in the gusts of breeze. It felt almost as if it was twilight, that kind of darkness.

I traipsed through the mud to the path next to the orchard and pierced a quote from Russell Hoban's Amaryllis Night and Day with a rusty fence post. On the piece of yellow paper I left there, it said:

'I searched in my A to Z for anything Balsamic but there was nothing.' - Russell Hoban, Amaryllis Night and Day
