A while ago, I realised that the whole of this journal is simply an analogy for: a concrete fence post.

Check out Douglas Coupland's short story - Diamonds And Soot (posted by [livejournal.com profile] furtherwords, originally from the Walrus).

Don't be real - be post-modern

Most things in life are analogies for concrete fence posts, I think. Cold, grey, artificial structures supported upon an achingly transient earth. Reaching for the sky, yet forever doomed to remain rooted in the depths of nothingness, yearning to reach an Arcadia they're fated to never see. Surrounded by grass. Deep, lush grass.. Argh!!!

Check out Douglas Coupland's short story

That was really good! I especially loved the paragraph about story endings; I'm really interested in transience and beginnings/endings (where does childhood end? What exact moment does it go forever? etc.) and I keep wanting to write a pretentious essay about it (http://www.livejournal.com/users/robotron_5000/158599.html). I'll have to remember this story for inspiration :-)
