What I did in May 2021
Jun. 3rd, 2021 11:25 am
I walked in woods and the bluebells were beautiful. I swung on a rope swing and that felt so exciting. The other woods were covered in bright yellow cowslips and on the way there, I saw a rainbow.
I did an Ingress banner and walked around the New Malden area and along the Hogsmill River and passed the spot where Ophelia was painted. I stood underneath a pylon next to Malden Manor station and stared up.
I attended a stay at home Ingress First Saturday in King’s Lynn.
I attended a Douglas Coupland bookclub and we discussed Shampoo Planet.
I visited my mum and it was lovely to see her.
I finished playing Gone Home.
I went for a walk in Richmond Park, in the sunshine, past the deer, past Pen Ponds, and then I got covered in caterpillars!
I visited Herne Bay and walked by the sea.
I watched some of the Maker Music Festival.
I watched Maraoke on Twitch and sung along to songs with the lyrics changed to be about video games.
I walked to the next hamlet, across fields, staring back across the valley, over the railway crossing, and then through the country park and through woods and there were many bluebells.
I saw a sparrowhawk twice.
I visited Bexhill-on-Sea. It was lovely to see the sea. I actually went inside the De La Warr! I drank coffee and ate pineapple upside-down cake on a balcony, next to a sculpture of a giant worm burrowing into the building. I went inside a gallery and saw art! Sculpture! The first time I’ve been inside a gallery since September.
I joined the Tinkering World Tour MOOC which showed different people tinkering around the world and their spaces and gave activities to do. We visited Nairobi, Berlin, New Mexico, Aarhus, Kyoto and Tokyo.
:
The first session was Nairobi, Kenya, and there was dancing! I tried the dance moves. We also made faces with objects around our homes and then animated them. Here's a very simple face made out of train tickets, using gifmaker.me: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1a5STYC6M2ae5lvBVamkY0yXkMHcajgbX/view?usp=sharing
Took a trip to virtual Berlin and they showed a graffiti spray can printer, a museum/maker space, 100 day projects, and instruments that used colour detection to trigger sound - https://medium.com/playtronica/evolution-of-a-music-instrument-orbita-8fe4b0c42913
I also learnt about Smile to Vote: http://smiletovote.com/ It uses facial recognition to match you to a party so it can vote for you! (It is art.)
We also made scrap craft! Here is my new scrap friend, made from a plastic bag that contained apples, netting that contained oranges, and a cake case:

Here’s another scrap craft I made:

The Tinkering World Tour went to Japan and I learnt about this website about snacks, and am reading bits of it, intrigued by all the different snacks: Tasty Snacking. I learnt how to make pinwheel whirligigs. When I blow on the pinwheel, it turns and the worm with googly eyes moves also.

In New Mexico, we quickly made alternate realities in Scratch. Here's mine: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/531870447
In Aarhus, we made lost and found posters for imaginary pets. My poster:
