Ingress

Ingress was released for iOS a few days ago, so I played it for the first time yesterday evening.

For those not familiar with Ingress: Ingress (not to be confused with Ingres, the database) is a location based game, which involves walking around to different locations, so hopefully will give me something to do during my lunch breaks.

Yesterday, I captured two portals. I don't quite understand it all yet, but perhaps it will all become clearer when I play more.

Location based games, yay!

Ingress means I walk a lot more than I would otherwise.

I inherited a Nike Fuelband, which convinced me to walk more since I started wearing it (and also to dance around my living room). I have met my goal (which I increase every month) every day but one in 2014, but sometimes it is a bit of a struggle, so I think Ingress will provide me with extra motivation and make it more interesting.

Huh, I coincidentally started playing this a few days earlier, after having my dead phone replaced by a non-dead phone with a newer Android O/S.

It feels a little pointless as a click-and-wait-to-recharge game played against people who take it more seriously than you (I've encountered a few boring portals which are clearly just there to allow someone to stockpile equipment from their sofa), but not bad as a way to find odd sculptures, and to encourage you to walk a little out of your way. The timed recharging is nice for making it more efficient to walk in a loop between portals instead of sitting at one of them.

Which side are you playing?

And aha, I just spotted you turning somewhere green in the 5km feed. Looks like we're in opposition, then.

Resistance is futile, you will be Enlightened!

Most of where I live and work seem to be green at the moment.

I seem to be obsessively writing down lists of portals I have captured.
