Crisps and Sparrows and Parrotlets
Mar. 20th, 2003 10:18 amHis name was Harry, and he liked yachts. He wrote a letter to his grand-daughter, telling her about the family tree that he'd been researching on the net - mentioning people named "Sparrow" and "Easter". He used a surprising amount of exclamation marks in that letter, but it was for other reasons that she thought he seemed happier. He died last weekend in New Zealand, a country she'd never visited, while she was visiting her brother in Sheffield. He'd moved there after her grandmother had died, so she hadn't seen him for a few years. She hadn't yet replied to the letter and she's sad that he's gone now.
--
She started to alter a book she'd bought from the library, "Lovebirds and Parrotlets".
--
She's scared of sparrows and lovebirds and parrotlets and people and alterations and war, and probably even death a little bit.
