On Monochrome BBS, every time I look to see who is higher than me in the spod quotient table, I find that the user hasn't logged on for at least several years, so I just wondered when you last logged on to Monochrome BBS? If you can't remember, comment with your username and I'll tell you.

I answered 2011, because I do still check in with mono from time to time.

I must be honest though, I log in a lot less than I used to.. I'd say I haven't technically been a regular user since, er, probably 2009.

I seem to go through phases. Sometimes I won't log on regularly for years, but then I'll start again, but I'm not sure why.

It's odd to see how completely dead various sections are, such as The Ladies Loos section, in comparison to theladiesloos.

I'm intrigued to know why people don't log on anymore. To be honest, I can understand for many reasons, but I'm curious as to the individual ones. In part to see if there's anything that can be done, and in part just out of curiosity.

For me, it sometimes depends on my job. I've worked in places that have not allowed SSH/Telnet access, so then have not logged on much. I've also had times, such as when I did my MSc, when I haven't been spending most of my days sat in front of a computer.

Also, when LiveJournal appeared, I stopped using Mono as much, as I had somewhere else to blog, that allowed me to post pictures and allowed for more interaction.

What else? Oh, like shermarama mentions below - there used to be more incentive to log on, if you were involved with or interested in someone else who logged in regularly.. but times change and more people are in long-term relationships and don't need Mono as some kind of strange dating site. :)

But I'm still logging in anyway, so maybe it's better to ask other people why they stopped using Mono!

About a year after getting my LJ account I believe, which would have been 2004.

After that, they got quite purge-happy, I seem to recall. I'm kinda hoping this means that no traces of me exist there anymore!

There have been recent discussions of purging accounts that have been inactive for 5 years, but it was concluded that there isn't really any point doing so.

I'm pretty certain I've logged in this year.

I pretty much stopped using it regularly when I stopped going out with someone who was frequently on it and lived in another city, which was in 2008.

I wonder if that is similar for many people? Not necessarily after breaking up with someone, but there is definitely much more incentive to log on, if you are dating or just interested in someone else who regularly logs in.

My gut feeling isn't that it's quieter now because it didn't "move with the times" so much as for a while there was too much bickering going unchecked and folk got fed up with it.

Fortunately, the vitriolic idiots seem to have left now. Unfortunately, they didn't do it before they'd driven off everyone else. IMHO, etc.
