"Are you lost?" he asked.
"No," I said, "I'm just wandering."
I started to walk towards a footpath I had never noticed before.
"I'm going that way too," he said. "I'm not following you though."

I walked faster along the footpath that followed the river, stomping on brambles that were in my way, until I reached the bridge and looked around, and he was no longer there.

One of the good things about this time of year is that footpaths I have never noticed before have emerged, when usually they would be overgrown and I would not see them.

I saw a tree in the meadow that had planks of wood attached to it. I will attempt to climb it on a less sunny day, when there are less people around.

"I'm not following you" is a really odd thing to say to someone you're obviously following, intentionally or otherwise.

There are indeed a lot of people around outside today. I wonder where they all come from, especially the ones with dogs.

I was confused enough when he asked me if I was lost!

I usually see dogs, but today I did not, but there were definitely more joggers (some of them mud-covered) and random people walking through the meadow and even in the orchard. Also, some kind of mouse-like creature! No butterflies yet though.

i find winter is good for discovering previously unknown paths; footprints in the snow make them obvious. Similarly, winter is a time for not visiting places i like to think of as secret, since my footprints would give them away.
