My last weekend in London (September 20th and 21st) coincides with Open House London Weekend, so I'm hoping to see some cool buildings before I leave. Anyone else thinking of going, and if so, to what?

I've been to the Neasden Bunker twice before, but am thinking of going again. Anyone want to join me?

I'd definitely be up for something, though I'm not sure what.

It's always difficult to decide what to go to. 699 things to choose from, apparently!

Would love to, but alas that is the weekend I am in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Hope you find some late-flowering majesty in the capital.

Hopefully I'll find some more pink and yellow fungi blooming in the bunker. :)

Oh, you're going soon! We must have a Tube Walk to send you off! Let me know which Saturdays you can't do...

Ooh I always miss the open house stuff! I'm doing a cycling thing on the Sunday but free on the Saturday.

Fantastic! I shall try to make it to things this year. Also, we are having a party that Saturday, and you're invited.

Want to come to the Neasden bunker? Tickets are free, but have to be booked in advance and it's only open on the Saturday, so you might be preparing for the party.

Mmmmaybe. I went to the secret bunker in Fife, and it wasn't as cool as I had hoped, plus there are bound to be loads of other buildings I'd like to see. Can I get back to you in the next few days about that? Thanks for the invitation, though.

I can't make it Saturday afternoon (I'll be in Stratford-upon-avon too) so I think no bunker for me. But maybe something on the Sunday?

Sunday 8am-11am, Babylon Roof Gardens?

Babylon Roof Gardens - yes yes, we've been meaning to get there for ages! Let's go, if we're awake. Sunday morning usually doesn't happen for me, and if I go to [livejournal.com profile] khalinche's party, then I might be a zombie by then, but I do want to go! :)

Castle? Severndroog Castle (http://www.londonopenhouse.org/london/find/detail.asp?loh_id=3120&postcode=SE18%203RT&period=buildings%20of%20any%20period&building=all%20types%20of%20buildings&wheelchair=&architect=&resident=&activities=&name=severndroog&greenbuild=&advanced=false).

Dovecot? Old Coach House and Dovecot (http://www.londonopenhouse.org/london/find/detail.asp?loh_id=15121&postcode=HA5%203AL&period=buildings%20of%20any%20period&building=all%20types%20of%20buildings&wheelchair=&architect=&resident=&activities=&name=dove&greenbuild=&advanced=false).

Windmills? 4 windmills! (http://www.londonopenhouse.org/london/find/map.asp?name=windmill&postcode=postcode&building=all+types+of+buildings&architect=&borough=local+boroughs&period=buildings+of+any+period&advanced=false)

I'll actually have to look at my list of places from other years. It's a pity all the places I want to go are always so faraway from each other!

Just looking at what is closest to where we live- seems to be 30 Cholmeley Crescent and Highgate School Chapel & Big School. I tried typing in our postcode, but it strangely suggested St Giles Parish Church, Camberwell, which is apparently located in the middle of the sea, by the country of Ghana! I had no idea that counted as London.

yes,I've been wanting to do Neasden :-)

I'll have to have a look myself at other things - certainly fitting in a couple that are near to home sounds like a plan

I still haven't phoned up and asked for tickets.. What time would be preferable?

From: [identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com
Erm.... not too early as I'll have to get there! Other than that, not fussed :)

Yeah.. not too early, but preferably not too late, so there's time to see other Open House stuff. 1pm or is that too early / too late?

Date: 2008-08-26 09:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com
That should give plenty of time to get there; but depends how long the place is open; maybe a bit earlier so we can see all the stuff, 11 or 12? Or is that too ambitious? I'm not even entirely sure where it is!

It's a guided tour thing, but I can't remember how long it lasts.

"Sat - 8.30am-5pm. Pre-book ONLY on 020 8782 4239 (Katy Bajina). Comprehensive tour given. Sensible footwear and clothing should be worn. Last entry 5pm."

It's near to Dollis Hill/Neasden. I'm probably going to allow an hour to get there and then 30 minutes to walk there, but I'm sure it doesn't actually take that long to get there really. (Or does it?)
The Stables (http://www.londonopenhouse.org/public/london/find/detail.asp?loh_id=14906&postcode=NW2%206HT&period=buildings%20of%20any%20period&building=all%20types%20of%20buildings&wheelchair=&architect=&resident=&activities=&name=stables&greenbuild=&advanced=false) is worth popping into on the way back. It's just some art in some old stables.

11 or 12 would be fine with me though, if you'd prefer to go at that time? Nick is planning to come up from Southampton, so I'd need to check with him too.

I'm going to see glow-worms and glaciers, robots and rainforests, castles, mountains and beaches, skyscrapers and shrines, and eat sweet potato ice-cream and drink freckles milkshakes. To start with, anyway.
