1. Secret passageway, full of cobwebs and abandoned video players. Suspicious pile of rubble at the end of the the passageway, with further digging could lead all the way to the Mole Man's lair in Hackney, or perhaps to vaults in Highgate cemetery, or even just to secret tube stations.

2. Sacrificial altar. (Victorian sink with coals underneath, encrusted with rust-covered coins.)

3. Zeppelin in the outdoor cupboard.

4. Sinister poster of three owls.

5. Food found left in house: salt. Suggests there may have been a problem with giant killer slugs.

6. Dead yellow flowers pinned to the wall.

7. Early morning rumblings of tube trains, which I hope will soon seem like a lullaby.

8. Glow-in-the-dark stars, but only on one corner of my bedroom ceiling, as if magical happenings might happen only underneath there.

I wish to live in a place that has zeppelin access.

I'm not sure it's an entirely functional zeppelin.

You never know, some winter evening perhaps someone will step through into it "Dawn Treader" style whilst checking on the boiler...

That would be cool! I'll look out for them. :)

You forgot to mention the glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling! :P

I'm having bad dreams involving rumblings of tube trains. Hopefully they won't evolve into nightmares about being run over by tube trains. Or ghosts in the walls.

Have you dug the video tape out of the video player yet to see what may be on it? I think a higher intelligence is trying to send you a message.

Bother, I knew there was one point I was missing! I shall add it shortly.

I think I am beginning to get used to the rumbles of trains. They appear in lectures too.

I shall investigate the video player soon, yes! Although if there is no video in there, I should copy my 8th birthday party tape and put a copy of it in there!

I have terrifying thoughts that the video player is connected up to speakers, and the video tape is of rumblings of tube trains, and it's timer set to play at 6am every morning.

Which would mean there are secret passageways in your lecture room too. Have you looked for them?

Maybe given time I'll get used to train rumblings, although right now I've been made hypersensitive to the sound, I think. I heard the central line rumbling away on Sunday morning from my bedroom, very faintly in the distance. I usually don't notice it.

What significant event happened at your 8th birthday party, I now wonder?

I'm reading papers that mention tube trains now, just to relate them to the rumbling in lectures.

"It's like using the London underground, you get used to thinking in absolute or relative coordinates".

I wouldn't be surprised if the video was just of tube trains.

My 8th birthday party, hmm, well, I did bash my head on something or other. Maybe that was significant?

Or Basingstoke, or Reading

Now I have Robyn Hitchcock's "I often dream of trains" running 'round my head

on Sunday morning [livejournal.com profile] augeas and I heard the tube trains too

Basingstoke, yes. If I dreamt of trains, they'd be more likely to go there than paradise. Tch.

I think you've found the right house... Although giant killer slugs are a bit of a downer.

It's okay, they were the made up bit of the list.

I'm not so sure they were entirely made up. ;-P

3. Zeppelin in the outdoor cupboard.

Reminds me of this (http://xkcd.com/288/) :)

7. Early morning rumblings of tube trains, which I hope will soon seem like a lullaby.

That sounds like the place I lived in when in Walthamstow late 2004. There must have been no trains the 20 minutes or so we took looking around the place, but when we moved in we noticed the rumbling of the trains. Before long we totally tuned it out, so it likely won't be a problem.

3. Heh, yes, I hope to turn a dial or something in the cupboard and hope the zeppelin starts to work.

7. The rumblings aren't terribly loud, so hopefully I will learn to tune out.

i used to have this theory, that when i ran out of salt it was time to move on. Of course except for the first time (i ran out of salt and i was moving in a month or something so i hesitated to buy more, i'd just have to move it) it never worked out that way. But it makes salt seem like a very interesting thing to leave behind.

It does make salt seem like an interesting thing to leave behind. Perhaps the pervious occupants are trapped on a video tape after all!

ooh that sounds cool.

Do the glow in the dark stars match any particular constellations? Do they move? (If you stare at them long enough in the dark even?)

I've not been home much recently, but when I remember, I shall stare at them and try to find out. :)
