Jigsaw Pieces
I stepped between the jigsaw pieces that had been scattered on Archers Road, as my eyes jumped from one piece to another, trying to figure out what the picture was of, and at the same time, wondering about my life and all kinds of puzzle-related metaphors.

I smelt the ocean and then strawberry fields as I drove past them.

I tried to look further into the distance as I followed the signs that said "out of city".

The following is the preface of the book I'm currently reading:

"Come with me, ladies and gentlemen who are in any wise weary of
London: come with me: and those that tire at all of the world we know:
for we have new worlds here."

Substitute "Southampton" for "London", and this would suit you well. It's The Book of Wonder, by Lord Dunsany, and the highest of high fantasy - the quality of the writing is astonishing...

Interesting. Published in 1912, so several hundred years after Samuel Johnson's famous phrase.

But what is it a picture of? What?

Well, if I'm honest, I didn't really think about symbolism or anything, I like the rich colour and texture of the grey flagging though, setting off the casual way the jigsaw pieces are just lying. It's nice too that they are conceivably part of the same jigsaw if not at all similar.

I have visions of you marching away from Soton with all your possessions bundled into a knotted handkerchief of the end of a stick!

Some of the jigsaw pieces were already attached to each other.

I will march away with a wire mesh bin over my head, not knowing how else to carry it, protecting me from tiny flying dolphins that will try to stop my escape.
