Don't walk towards the sun
Don't walk towards the sun.
If The Diary of Unexpected Skies had been found, I would have written about the sky in there, but perhaps the sky had become too ordinary sometime in the past and I had discarded the notion of such a book.

I was somewhere near Sway when it happened. Mesmerised by the clouds moving faster than I had ever seen before, I felt giddy and rubbed my eyes. They looked almost magnetised and swirling, swarming towards one particular point, as if a vortex had appeared in the sky.

That day, I also went to Bats Bush; saw spiders hanging from the roots of fallen trees; traipsed past fly agaric; stood still as a red admiral butterfly circled me; decided to always cross bridges; photographed the reflections of trees in a river; searched for my own reflection in a puddle; and on my return to Southampton, the sun began to set and the sky became pink, blue and purple.

"24/05/98 Sunday.
Sukothai. The streets are paved with vegetables.
It is easy when visiting so many places in such a short space of time to confine yourself to the immediate vicinity of your guest house and then regret what you have missed as you pass it in the bus on the way out. To this end we have made a pact that if we see a bridge we will cross it. Last night this paid off handsomely in our never ending quest to eat the best food in Thailand. Phat thai, kung chup paeng thawt and phak bung fai daeng. I am in love, I am in heaven. When I return to Brixton I must seek out this vegetable called morning glory. That should provide hours of endless entertainment with the staff down at Camberwell Safeways".

For a moment, I was transported back to a time.
Thanks for that.

Sounds cool. :) Did you ever find a vegetable called Morning Glory?

Sometimes you've gotta love Brixton. Did indeed find morning glory down at the market amongst all the roots, tubers and weird gnarly vegetables. Don't think, however, I ever did it justice.

How odd! I only know of the flower (and the seeds as hallucinogens), but the Wikipedia seems to say, "Ipomoea aquatica, known as water teeth, water morning-glory, water convolvulus or swamp cabbage, is popularly used as a green vegetable especially in East and Southeast Asian cuisines."

Water teeth and swamp cabbage are also good names. :)

Swamp Cabbage.
I need Swamp Cabbage.
Jamie Oliver got his marketing so wrong.
Kids would love Swamp Cabbage.
Got to better than Cottage Pie.
Although I seem to remember there was stuff much worse than that.
Like Spam Fritters.
Just SO wrong.

Swamp cabbage sounds good! I think I remember eating spam fritters at school and strangely quite liking them. Wonder if there are vegetarian equivalents. Hmm. I suppose I've eaten vegetarian schnitzel, which is vaguely close.

Wow, what a fantastic colour that is. And a great shot, too, with the red man in the foreground :) I love looking up at the sky; I reckon a lot of people hardly ever do it.
