Rose

I received a flower from the inside of a borrowed book. A rose, crushed and crumpled amongst the words. I am not enjoying the book that much, but the flower was freshly pressed, the fragrance sweet and lingering on the pages. I wondered why it was there, until I read enough of the book to know the main character is mourning for someone she has lost: Rose.

They're not that related really.. I took the rose that was in that book, tore it to pieces and stuck it into a different book. :)

guess i should have read this before the below comment...
just thought i was missing out on something hip to do - would have to start packing my pages of Buk with receipts from the bar, pull the pubic hair from my sheets from my last woman and litter it in a Henry Miller book...
but, truth be told, i'm glad it's not hip--- would hate to have to go thru that much trouble when loaning out my books.

I once found a photo of a girl, inside a book that said, "My dad likes this picture, but I think I look fat in it." I didn't take that book out of the library.

Perhaps you should fill books with receipts!

found a book in the book recycling at the dump that was entitled something like: COPING WITH YOUR CANCER. in a pile with a lot of other similar books.
there was an unopened letter in it... saying - I know it's getting worse, you'll pull thru - I think our time together was wonderful, even if it was just a week in Australia on vacation. - Please write back - I love you too...
figured the lady probably died; her family threw out the books.
kept the letter, tho. thought of writing the guy and letting him know about finding the book/letter --- but never did.

That's really sad. :( Perhaps I should buy new books to avoid such a thing happening, although I suppose people might sneak in notes and all manner of things into books in shops also.

I don't open letters to other people that are addressed to my house anymore, because that also makes me sad. It's always someone who has lost touch or a card from their grandparents wishing them well, that kind of thing.

I don't receive many anymore, since my housemate and I are the only people that have lived where we do. But hey, if I ever move and the letters start appearing again, I'll forward them to you.
