Sorry about the size. Was contemplating putting it behind a cut, but then didn't, although I probably should have!

I took a photo of myself with a digital camera, used the "Find edges" option on Photoshop, and printed it out. Then I cut it into bits, replaced my face and neck with bits of a magazine, and my hair with a bit of a book. After that, I glued it all onto black paper and scanned it back in. :)

Thanks! I am contemplating painting my face purple and shaving off my real hair and wearing strips of a book attached to my head, so that I can look like that all the time. :)

for some reason, strips of book attached to the
head is one of those concepts that is probably
much better in theory.

especially if it rains.

soggy head seems far worse than a little frizz.

Very cool

I love it! And did you see the latest art on the homepage of Coupland.com? It also includes book pages "hand chewed" by the artist

Ah, yes, true. Washing it would be a nightmare! Plus it's usually pretty windy here, so my "hair" would probably drift away quite quickly.

well, you could always laminate it.
i'd guess that would sort of make the "locks" of "hair" almost "dreadlike"

:-)

Hand chewed by the artist is very lovely. Makes me just want to nibble on Generation X right now. :)

I guess there are those wigs that are made of paper. Even the Tweenies seem to have instructions (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/tweenies/messytime/makeanddo/makeawig.shtml) on how to make them, although unsurprisingly it doesn't look even vaguely similar to my Lovebirds and Parrotlets hair-do!

This is incredibly cool. Would you mind if I put a copy on my page of self portraits (http://www.poppyfields.net/poppy/sp/)?

Thanks. Sure, you can put it on your page. :) The picture can be found at http://jodi.freeshell.org/jodicollage2.jpg if LJ doesn't say that.

Interesting photos of Bristol, I haven't been there for ages. Who's the guy? He looks happy ;)

It was the first time I had ever been to Bristol - it seemed quite a fun place though. The guy was Kandi, who I met through Monochrome BBS (http://www.mono.org). I suspect he was happy after drinking birch liqueur, which may have been the cause of his hallucinations. :)
