It was spring and an extra hour of light had emerged. Taking advantage of this warmth, people tried to get as close to the blue sky as they could. Some sat on the roofs of houses, pretending to fix them. Others climbed trees or tried to swing as high as they could. I just sat on the top deck of the blue and yellow bus and watched.

When i walked to Geneva, just about where i took the drain picture, i saw a few people sitting on their roof. i considered waving but thought they wouldn't see me.

When I first read about Geneva in your diary entry, I assumed it was the more well-known one, and then realized it wasn't. Reading this comment of yours I just made the same mistake again!

At primary school, I used to often see the caretaker wandering around on the roof (rescuing footballs and frisbees), and I thought that when I was older I would probably be able to walk on roofs often.

When I was at primary school, it annoyed us that we weren’t allowed on the roof to retrieve balls/frisbees/etc; instead we had to wait a month or two for the caretaker to get round to going up and throwing them down. After a tennis ball has lain on a roof for a couple of months, no-one can remember who it used to belong to; and besides, after having been exposed to two months of rain, a tennis ball loses its bounce.

Now I am three or four times primary school age: I no longer want to go on a roof if I can possibly avoid it.
