An old warehouse with the warning, "dangerous structure", is the location in Wapping for the Punchdrunk production of Faust.
At first, we are in a country and western bar, listening to the music playing, until we are called for and crammed into a lift with a man who is creepy and strokes my hand, telling me that my skin is soft.
I peer out through a black mask at
obandsoller,
wintrmute,
fluffymark and later,
verlaine and hope they can still recognise me and I can recognise them.
We wander through an American diner, sniff the popcorn while we glance at "A Touch of Evil" playing at a cinema, walk over a pentagram that covers the floor of a different room, gaze at test tubes and strange jars, move out of the way of a backwards moving Gretchen amongst the pine trees, walk through a corridor with a line of candles, pass the preacher, and visit my favourite room which is adorned with eerie rows of maize and a scarecrow. Most of the rooms are dark and disturbing, with a lot of attention to detail.
Occasionally we see actors stumbling around or hanging from light fixtures and towards the end, like most of the other spectators seem to be doing, begin to follow them, so that we see some of the action. I do not see enough to understand the plot, but the experience is interesting.
