Previous to the current state of knees:
The knees were stodgy and in parts somehow mucus-like, but only for a while before they became more like molten lava. She would stare at the place where it may have happened, trying to look for the missing pieces of her knees, as if specks of flesh would still be there, visible amongst the carpet hairs and crumbs. She'd be able to reattach them, cover up the sore areas, and then she wouldn't find standing painful. At home she removes the plasters and wears shorts, but at work the knees sting painfully under her desk.

As if something was once attached to them, but is no longer. You would not be able to tell that this was not antlers.
