Diet Coke Fossil
Mar. 3rd, 2003 10:05 amFossilised more than life itself, all that was left was a solitary drinks can. We were trying to find it, digging through the concrete as fast as possible, knowing it was there, until we saw the glint. Still slightly shiny after all these years, pieces of metal moulded into the shape of a cylinder, once filled with a liquid of the drinkable variety. At least, back then they thought it was drinkable, that it wouldn't damage them. That it was the opposite to unclean drinking water, that it was more tasty and modern. Flavours of the past strike us all as we stare at this lonely can. We wonder if there might be a trace of the actual liquid somehow preserved on it, so that we can find out what this drink actually tasted like, and possibly recreate it ourselves. I don't think anyone is likely to drink it, after finding out what it can do to people, and did do, all those years ago, but someone might like to smell it if we recreate it. Just smelling is far less involving than actually drinking it, but we might be able to get some idea of what the drink itself was actually like. We also might be able to get some idea of what happened to the civilisation that used to drink from these vessels.
