Look in the mirror at the Great Feather of Woolston glinting in the distance;
Drive fast enough to feel the wind in your hair, strands swirling out the open window;
Turn left at the silver garage doors that are shimmering in the heat with crazy miraged motion;
Stop at the red traffic light and watch the seeds dancing, the fairies fluttering;
Drive over the shadows of trees;
Reverse around the corner where all the petals have fallen;
Pull down the shade, as the sun, the sun is glowing, perhaps a little too brightly.

It's just the Art of Driving...

have fun with it, anyway. Beats the Art of Number-Crunching, in which I am currently embroiled...

Am I alone in thinking that you're easily distracted?

Perhaps that is why I am on lesson #3852.

Wow, I wish I had driving lessons like that...

My funniest one was when I ignored a turnoff the instructor gave me and I had to trundle through a roadworks with gravel flying everywhere. ;o)

I suppose if it was rainbow coloured gravel, it could have been cool!

You never know - perhaps it's ll some part of Southampton Below, or something.

Actually, I've always felt that if Neverwhere wanted to expand its remit, it should go to Norwich, which is full of such things. Norwich is, as its motto suggests, A Fine City.

I know how bizarre this must sound to you, but in some ways I miss Southampton - I will have to visit the place again, possibly if I make it down to Arundel at some point...

You want to talk to Tom (grimbol). He hasd an exhaustive knowledge of all the best roads to drve entertainingly on in a thirty-mile radius of Soton...

I don't really know Norwich. I think I may have visited it once, but not entirely sure.

I think I will probably miss Southampton when I leave.

Well, as he leaps from the car as you do 55 up Zig-Zag Hill, you can always inform him quietly that "You're no fun any more".

Ever heard the Driving Instructor, by Bob Newhart? That gives you some things to try and then tick off...

My reason tyo go to Southampton shuffled into the realm Empyrean a couple of years ago, so other than the odd trip to see Tom, I don't get to the city much. It was always a place we went for holidays, to see my grandparent(s), so has good connotations.

I think Norwich would amuse you - it's a very old city, in which everything from the twelfth century to the twenty-first is crammed in cheek by jowl. It also has no discernible order in its layout at all. We should go there some time - Norfolk as a whole is amusingly random.

I mean, besides praying?

You're always welcome to sleep on my couch, although I'll only be here for a few months longer, until I go to Japan or Mongolia or Kyrgyzstan or somewhere else at random.

Norwich, yes, my mum has some kind of plan involving a boat, but she's undecided as to whether it is a speed boat or a canal boat or what, so may visit that area sometime soon. :)

The main area for boating round there is the Broads, and it's pretty much the opposite of speedboats. Go to Wroxham or Stalham, and you can feel the passage of time slowing to a crawl, which is rather pleasant.

Let me know if yu're going to be in the area. I will give some thought to heading south, also, as it would be good to see both the city and you...

I've been boating on the Broads before, but not sure where exactly, since sadly I was about 1 or 2 years old, so don't remember it at all. I have photos though. :)

It's a big area, which gives the impression of being a giant version of a glass of water spilt on a worktop - it;s so very flat that the water just clumps randomly.
The north Norfolk coast is also lovely, at least until you go round the corner and get to Yarmouth, at which point it all goes a bit wrong.
