"Welcome to the future", the text on my dress stuttered as I clung to the tree, attempting to photograph the bright yellow bracket fungus above me.

Do you think it may have been the Chicken of the woods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_of_the_Woods) grabbing the tree above me? The chicken of the woods! I would have replaced my words with clucks if I had known.
